Fowey

The pretty harbour town of Fowey is just 5 miles from Green Acres Cottages.

Quaint cobbled streets and fantastic tea rooms

Wind down cobbled streets and discover a town which could have stepped out yesteryear. Look closer and you’ll see vibrant shop windows spilling over with artisan gifts, quaint tea rooms serving delicious home made cakes and plenty of hustle and bustle.

Fowey is a treat to visit. Nestled by the river and served by the Boddinick Ferry, while away time watching sailing boats go by or discover the latest Cornish novel in one of the bookshops, mooch around a gallery or explore the antique shops.

Walks and ferry

If you arrive by car, it’s worth parking at the car park at the top of the town. There are fantastic views over the estuary and a steep and winding walk to Readymoney Cove to be enjoyed.

Weekly town walks of Fowey, Polruan and Lostwithiel are available during peak season but there’s plenty of coast paths and coves to discover. Much of the surrounding land is cared for by The National Trust.

The Hall walk is a particularly good circular walk which includes a trip on the Bodinnick Ferry and then back on the Polruan ferry.

Festivals

There is a strong literary following in Fowey with a festival each year. Daphne du Maurier lived and wrote from Ferryside, Menabilly and Kilmarth and Kenneth Graham based some of The Wind in the Willows on the area. Look out for:

  • Fowey Royal Regatta
  • Festival of Arts and Literature
  • Christmas Markets
